The new year started well for University students in York, as they unveiled a brand-new radio studio, featuring a desk especially made by Knotty Ash Woodworking. Opening on the 7th January, the new studio was completed with the help of a £40,000 grant from the University of York’s Alumni Association for the Big Campus Sound Project. The aim of the project was to refit the studios to an industry standard, something our team of craftsmen are adept at, thanks to our numerous radio studio furniture clients such as the BBC, LBC and Radio X.
Using our expertise and knowledge of the broadcast industry, we conceived a streamlined radio studio desk and now the presenters at the university radio have space to house all of the equipment that keeps them on the air. The refit saw a range of new hardware and software introduced including new Sonifex S2, m!ka Mic Arm TVs ready for visualisation, SM7B microphones and of course a bespoke custom console presenting desk. All of these assets combined have produced a state-of-the-art space for station members and anyone at the University of York who needs to record audio.
Thanks to the refit, the university now has 2 fully functioning, professional radio studios at their disposal. As the most recent development is called ‘Studio Blue’ part of our custom console process was to match the desk to the colour scheme, and since creating the product, the University has approached us to help with their other studio; ‘Studio Red’.
